One thing you’d never guess about this picture is that I’m crushingly tired. The kind of tired that you can barely form a sentence. And yep, a little sad. But you look so happy!…

I had just returned from taking 2 kids to college. The youngest going in as a freshman.

Good friends of ours who have been through the loneliness of coming home to an empty house had planned a night in the city (New York) with us soon after we returned.

We walked a lot, laughed a lot and had some wine. It was a lot of fun but underneath the happy face I was really tired and still emotionally not all in.

The moral behind the story? Pictures don’t always tell the real story. Just because you’re seeing posts of everyone “having a blast” doesn’t mean that they are. Starting a new school, a new grade, making new friends, or life in general can be hard at times.

Start conversations and say hello. Get to know one new person you normally wouldn’t. Reach out to people you don’t know well but think they’d appreciate the gesture. It’s all about relationships. I don’t care if you’re a teen or an adult. It’s called being KIND. With the new school year starting let’s BE KIND to ourselves and those around us.

Let’s get started! Share this with 3 of your friends who you think need this message.

P.S. If it weren’t for our friends reaching out it would have taken a lot longer to get to the happier place that I am now.
